Dear TCS Community,
I would like to thank the 53 people who found time in their summer schedules to come out and tour the St Bernardine's school building on Tuesday night. For the rest of you, we have some pictures to give you an idea.
1 front entrance: the camera is facing west; the entrance faces east onto Elgin
2 south view: south of the building is a parking lot and hard top play area
3 north view: north of the building is a straight up parking lot
4 floor plan: oddly, up is south on this map
5 & 6 are just inside the front entrance and lead straight into 7
8 classroom: three views of a typical classroom (they are roughly the same size as our current rooms, with the same long closets)
9 this room has water service
10 library: imagine that
11 bathroom and utility closet
12 there are three staircases in the building
13 the larger of the two basement rooms
14 industrial kitchen similar to the one at SMC
15 outdoor play equipment in the south parking lot area
There was also a small garden not pictured. Maybe 8 by 30 feet. And Centennial Park is a few blocks away to the northwest.
I encourage you to drive by and take a peak at the exterior and the neighborhood if you get a chance. It's convenient to access. I usually go west on Madison, south on Circle, east on Harrison, and south on Elgin. This avoids the whole Harlem/I290 situation.
A survey was circulated at the tour. 20 responses so far. We will also put this up on Survey Monkey for everyone to participate. Results will be shared in due time.
Pending feedback from our community, we may engage in lease negotiations with the Archdiocese. This is where a lot of little details will be worked out. Like how do we share the garden, the kitchen, etc. Also financial arrangements. All indications are that we would be able to develop a smooth working relationship with St B, as we have at SMC, if we choose to go that route.
I would like to again emphasize that no decision has been made. Nor will one be made without lots of community input.
More details will follow later, I'm sure. But that's it for now.
Thanks,
--Tom.
